Eastern Christian School is pleased to announce it is the recipient of the 2025 National District of Character by Character.org, a nationally respected organization that advocates for character development in schools and communities. This year, 71 schools and only 3 school districts around the country—including Eastern Christian—have earned this national honor. Eastern Christian had previously been awarded a State District of Character.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Ruth Kuder, head of school. “This achievement reflects the heart of our community and the dedication of our staff, students, and families to cultivating a culture where Christ-like character is nurtured every day.”
The cross-campus team was led by Naomi Braunius and included Alyssa Westra, Kony Araya and Adam Culp.
To earn this prestigious national distinction, Eastern Christian completed a rigorous application and evaluation process, ensuring the school’s practices aligned with Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework. These principles range from promotion of core values, to the creation of a caring community, to a meaningful and challenging academic curriculum, to opportunities for shared leadership. The process at the national level also included interviews with school leadership, students and staff.
Character.org President Dr. Arthur Schwartz shared, “We are pleased to announce and celebrate the schools and school districts that have earned this national recognition. Each of these schools has put in place a comprehensive approach to help students understand, care about, and consistently practice the character strengths that will help them flourish in school, in relationships, in the workplace, and as citizens.”
Eastern Christian School has been recognized as a National District of Character since 2015, and most recently received the honor in 2020. To learn more about the 2025 National Schools and Districts of Character, visit www.character.org.
